Crock Pot Chicken and Black Beans

Dinner For Tonight!

Crock Pot Chicken and Black Beans
July 21, 2009 | By admin In Mexican chicken |

My family loves Mexican food. This makes such a good stuffing for burritos or you can just serve it over rice. Either way if you like Mexican food, you’ll love this easy recipe.

Crock Pot Chicken and Black Beans
3 to 4 boneless chicken breast halves, cut in strips
1 can (12 to 15 ounces) corn, drained
1 can (15 oz) black beans, rinsed and drained
2 teaspoons ground cumin
2 teaspoons chili powder
1 onion, halved and thinly sliced
1 green bell pepper, cut in strips
1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes
1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste

Combine all ingredients in the crockpot and cook on LOW about 6 hours.
I usually leave out the green peppers and I only add 1 tsp of cumin. But do what suits your taste. Now warm some tortillas. Place your crock pot mixture in the tortilla, add lettuce, cheese and sour cream. Roll it up and you have a fabulous burrito!

Cool Nightstands

I've been looking for
a cool bedside table and I wanted
it to be unique.  After lots of internet surfing,
I ran across this site.
I am sure that I couldn't touch these, so
I am going to have to get creative and come up
with something similar.  Wish me luck!

Finishing Touches

I have been searching for fabric
to make some curtains
for the bedroom redo.
I found this at Fabricdirect.com
What do you think?
Will it be a good contrast to the walls or
should I do plain brown with no swirls?
If you remember we did the
bottom 3/4th of our wall
with this stencil.
Let me know what you think.

I am so making this!!!

I have been on the search for some new bedding for
the bedroom makeover when I found this duvet cover.
It is from pottery barn.  I also saw a pretty one from Empress
I currently do not or ever will have the budget for either of these.
pottery barn goes for $179.00 and the Empress goes for a whooping
$383.00 from dealtime.
Sooo, I googled "How to make a scrunchie bedspread".
I guess the proper term for the potter barn spread is
ruching or ruched, but that is not what I googled.
Any way in my searching I came across this blog

She has done a knock off tutorial on this exact duvet cover!
I am so excited because I am going to make this.
Thank you Fussy Monkey for your
Awesomeness!!!

Sweet Baby Harley

Today my Family and I went to my grand nieces blessing.  Such a sweet baby girl.  My nephew and his wife named her Harley Kelseylee (I am not 100% sure of the spelling on the middle name) She is a beautiful baby.  It kind of makes me want to hurry my kids along and get some grandbabies of my own!!!

How sweet are they!

The perfect Robins Egg Blue!!!

So, I wanted the perfect robins egg blue.  I had scoured the blogs trying to get
all the input and ideas that I could, but in the end we color matched a valspar paint chip at
home depot with behr paint.  I think the color was summer cottage but I will have to
check to be sure.  Anywho, I love it.  I'm not sure about the HH but at this point I
think he just wants to be done.  He said that it was more green than he
he had expected but that it was a nice color.  That could be code for
ahhhhh!  but he won't admit it cuz he doesn't want to paint again.
SO
here are the pictures of the paint.  I hope that the color on the screen
is close to the color on the wall because I really do a love it.

P-A-I-N-T Yahoo!!!!

Finally
the painting post...
we did all the yucky
paint prep work.
Why is getting ready
to paint soooo much more
work than actually painting?
Oh, but how rewarding it
is to have the room
all painted!  It just gives
me warm fuzzies.
Or is that just
the paint fumes?
Anyway, here are
the pictures!
Vaulted ceilings are awesome to tape for painting ;(

But once the prep work was finished, the fun began!

New Trim Work

We had lots of fun putting up
new door and window
trim.
You know the lovely builders grade
windows do not come with any
trim work.  So we added that.

Doesn't that look so much better?!
We used decorative corner pieces,
not sure what the technical
term is, but that's
what is under the tape.
We glued them
so the tape is holding them on
until the glue dries.

We also wanted to add chuckier
baseboards.  But with
the budget being what it is
we decided to follow the
lead of some fellow bloggers out there
and do some "pretend" chucky
baseboards.

We found a baseboard that matched
the original, then my Handyman used a
wood piece as a spacer and then
nailed the new base upside down above the original.

It might look funny at the moment
but wait for the magic of paint.
One last addition...

MEGA
shelf.   I am hoping that it will
bring some life to this boring wall.
 It is approximately 15ft. long.

The brilliant HH came up with
the design plan.
He bought the long shelf.
(I wanted it to be at least 5" wide)
he also bought the
crown molding to go under it.
But HH didn't like the amount of space
that was left under the shelf.
He felt like it was too much empty space, so...
He bought another piece of wood that he
stood up underneath the long shelf
behind the crown molding.
Does that make sense?
So, basically it is behind the molding
and pushes it out so that there is not as much
space in the front.  It also offers a
little dimension to the bottom of
the shelf too.

There is also a small wood rail
placed on the top edge of the shelf to
kind of act as a plate rail (so things don't fall off)
Is that a plate rail?

Oh, I almost forgot to mention,
we took the baseboard that supports the shelf
(the purple X)
and wrapped that all the way around the room.

Any who...

Now to prep for painting.
Why is the prep work always
so much more work than
the actual painting?

That drives me crazy!

Room Update

I have been so horrible at keeping up with my blogging updates!
Truly, we are about that slow with
our
room progress as well.

So, first I'll try to take you around the room.
Here is the entrance to our
room.

If you walk straight in you will see
this little short wall
before the entrance to the master bathroom.
It's about 47" long.

We will skip past the bathroom for now.
(That redo will be next)
On the other side of the bathroom door is
this short wall.
It's about 70" long  The corner connects us
to the window wall...

The window wall is about 13 ft. long

Then around the next corner is the long wall.
I call that the long wall because it's the only
wall with nothing on it.  No windows or doors.
You can also see that the vaulted
ceiling starts at that wall
and because the vaulted ceiling carries
over into the bathroom, the wall opposite of this one
has an open shelf above the bathroom doors.
I don't have a picture of the whole wall.

That brings us back around the corner,
Sorry no picture of this corner
this wall is about 8ft long before
you get back to the door.

So all in all the room is about
15ft x 13ft
not the biggest of rooms,
but not the smallest of rooms either.

What do we need to accomplish with this makeover of sorts?
We need some COLOR, some STORAGE and some
personality fused in.
After 16 years of plain white walls with nothing hanging on them, NOTHING!
Needless to say
I am very anxious for this to happen.

So, first things first we
(and by we I mean mostly HH
He likes to be in charge, it's a man thing I think)
Anywho I am getting ok with that.  REALLY, I am!
removed all of the door casings.

Here are most of the old casings.

We are on our way now.

More to come
soon.
(pinky promise)

The Master Bedroom Make-Over

It's finally MY turn!
After 16 (ish) years living in this house,
we are finally going to decorate our bedroom.
Not re-decorate, decorate for the very first time.
Yes it is true, we have lived here for a little more than 16
years and we have never painted, hung a picture, curtains, absolutely
NOTHING has been done in our room.
But it's my turn now BABY!
I am so excited.
I am going to post every step here and for those of
you who would like too, I would love for you to follow along.
My head is spinning with idea's.  You can imagine that someone who
loves to follow decorating blogs has an idea file the
size of ..... what...... I don't know, but it's BIG
and obviously I am not going to be able
to use every fabulous idea that I have collected from ya 'all.
So stay tuned and follow along with me as I we decide
what we will do with our room.  Do I have to
let HH have input?
Arrgggg
Wait, did I say that out loud?  Of course I want
my HH's input.

Anywho, so far I know that the
room will involve

this paint color "summer cottage" color matched at Home Depot
at 50%
I found it originally at Lowes in their Waverly Collection

this picture gave me some inspiration
(I think this picture was on Decorpad but I'm not 100% sure)

and this stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils

Stay tuned for more...

This is HILARIOUS!

O.K.
This is just too hilarious not to share.
I want to fancify
(it is a word)
my light fixtures or create one or something.
Anywho, I was blog searching for some idea's when
I stumbled upon this this site.
Oh my heck, this is outrageous!
I am still laughing about this.
Just had to share!!!

Grrrrrr!

I am really having a hard time trying to link my blog to facebook.
I  have tried to do this in the past and always end up giving up.
Of course my problems seem to grow the more I try to figure it out.
I just keep thinking of other things that I wanted to do as well.
So For about 3 hrs I have managed to go from one problem to MANY problems.
First I just wanted to post a comment from my email onto my blog.
I have done this before but now I can't figure out why it won't work.
Then I remembered I wanted to have my blog link to facebook,
still can't figure that out
and really what I got on to do was find a cool way to repurpose this frame I got.
Why can't I stay focused?
Why can't I figure things out more easily?
WHY?
WHY?
WHY?
ok I'm done now,
maybe.

What is the Weather Like Where You Live?

I joined a blog hop this morning.

I think that it will be a fun way to make some
new blog friends.  I have been blogging for a little while
and I must say sometimes it feels lonely!  I need some LOVE
followers so that I feel connected.

Anyway, back to the blog hop Simply Stacie and Just Married with Coupons
are hosting a global blog hop and the question is:
What is the Weather Like Where you live?
Well, I live in Riverton, Utah
and it is COLD here
20.6 F
This is actually the view from our front door.  So it is the neighbors house.

HH (Handsome Hubby)  making a path.

Bear being buried in the snow.

Ahh, winter fun!
(That's our house in the background)

Well that's the weather in my neck of the woods.
How about you,
what's it like where you live?
